Now Hiring:
School Social Worker

The Children's Guild | Baltimore, Maryland

Are you a social worker who believes every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and ready to learn?

At The Children's Guild, we know that a child's ability to succeed in school is deeply connected to their social, emotional, and family well-being. We are looking for a compassionate, skilled School Social Worker to join our Baltimore team and serve as a vital bridge between students, families, schools, and the community.

Who We Are

The Children's Guild is a nonprofit organization and affiliate of Tran Zed Alliance — one of the most experienced child-serving organizations in the Greater Baltimore/Washington region. Our Baltimore special education school serves students with emotional disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, developmental delays, and other diverse learning needs in a trauma-informed, therapeutic environment.

Our interdisciplinary team of special educators, therapists, clinicians, psychologists, and support staff work together every day to ensure every student thrives — academically, socially, emotionally, and developmentally.

The Opportunity

As a School Social Worker, you will be an essential member of our multidisciplinary team — connecting students and families to the support they need inside and outside the school. You will:

  • Provide individual and group counseling to students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs
  • Conduct psychosocial assessments and contribute to IEP and 504 planning
  • Connect families to community resources, wraparound services, and crisis support
  • Support attendance intervention efforts and chronic absenteeism reduction
  • Collaborate with teachers, clinicians, administrators, and families to support student well-being
  • Serve as a student advocate — ensuring every child's voice is heard and their needs are met
  • Facilitate family meetings, home visits, and community outreach as needed
  • Support crisis assessment, safety planning, and de-escalation in collaboration with the school team
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in compliance with COMAR, HIPAA, and agency standards
  • Drive cultural transformation efforts by championing a trauma-informed, family-centered school culture
Qualifications

What We're Looking For

Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program (required)

Active licensure in Maryland (LCSW-C, LCSW, LMSW, or working toward full licensure)

2–5 years of experience in a school-based, child welfare, or community-based setting

Knowledge of trauma-informed practices, IDEA, and 504 regulations

Strong assessment, counseling, and case management skills

Familiarity with COMAR and Maryland child welfare regulations

Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for home and community visits

Ability to build trusting relationships with students, families, and staff from diverse backgrounds

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Bilingual candidates strongly encouraged to apply

Why The Children's Guild?

  • Mission-driven culture — join a team that shows up every day for students and families who need it most
  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience
  • Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision
  • Clinical supervision toward full licensure (LCSW-C, LCSW)
  • Mileage reimbursement for home and community visits
  • Ongoing professional development in trauma-informed care, PBIS, and child welfare best practices
  • Collaborative, interdisciplinary team environment
  • Meaningful work — your advocacy and support change the trajectory of children's lives every day
