Introduction

LocationStatewide. Positions are available in all Maryland counties and Baltimore City.
Main Purpose of JobThis provisional level of professional social work is for social workers who have not yet become licensed in Maryland. Employees provide preventive or protective services to vulnerable adults, children, or families. Cases involve suspected child or adult abuse or neglect, out‑of‑home placement, guardianship or emergency protective orders, adoption, or adult case management. Employees in this classification do not supervise.
Minimum Qualifications- Education:
A Master’s degree with the specific major title of “Social Work” (MSW). Must possess an MSW or be within six months of receiving one; there are no substitutions. - Experience:
None required.
Employees must obtain a license as a Graduate Social Worker (on or before June 30, 2018), Master Social Worker (on or after July 1, 2018), Certified Social Worker, or Certified Social Worker-Clinical from the State Board of Social Work Examiners by the end of two years of continuous employment. Employees who may need motor vehicle operation must hold a valid motor vehicle operator’s license in Maryland.
Special Requirements- Complete an approved training program and pass a competency test before being granted permanent employment status.
- Meet mandatory continuing education standards. Failure to obtain required credits may result in disciplinary action.

Qualified applicants that meet all minimum requirements will be ranked as Best‑Qualified and placed on an eligible list for twelve months. Hiring agencies will draw from this list as positions become available.
