Details

This is a statewide recruitment that runs continuously. Eligible candidates will be placed on an internal list for twelve months and considered for vacancies as they become available. Applicants may indicate any county or Baltimore City where they are willing to work.

Eligibility & Qualifications

A master’s degree with the specific major title "Social Work" (MSW) is the only acceptable education qualification for this classification. Applicants must possess an MSW, or be within six months of receiving one, to meet minimum qualifications.

Position Overview

Social Worker II, Family Services provides preventive or protective services to vulnerable adults, children, and families. Cases involve suspected child or adult abuse or neglect, out‑of‑home placement, guardianship or emergency protective orders, adoption, or adult case management. Employees in this classification do not supervise.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Education:

    Master’s degree with major title "Social Work" (MSW). No substitutions.
  • Experience:

    One year of experience providing child welfare or adult services to vulnerable individuals or families. Describe relevant experience in your application.
Licenses, Registrations & Certifications
  • Licensed as a Graduate Social Worker (by or before June 30 2018), Master Social Worker (by or after July 1 2018), Certified Social Worker, or Certified Social Worker‑Clinical by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners prior to permanent appointment.
  • Valid Maryland motor vehicle operator’s license if duties require operating a motor vehicle.
Special Requirements
  • Complete an approved training program and pass a competency test before permanent status.
  • Meet mandatory continuing‑education standards set by the Department of Human Resources. Failure to obtain required credits may lead to disciplinary action.
  • Provide a telephone number at which the employer can contact you.
Selection Process

Successful candidates will be ranked as Best‑Qualified and placed on the eligible list for twelve months. The list is used by hiring agencies to fill positions as they become available.
