Salary Range:
$44,129.00 - $71,928.00 Annually
Hiring Salary Range:
$44,129.00 – $58,028.50 Annually

Job Summary:
A Purchasing Assistant performs paraprofessional purchasing and office support work in a City agency or to assist Procurement Specialists and Buyers in the Bureau of Purchases. Work of this class may involve supervising office support personnel.
Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in an office where working conditions are normal. The work requires minimal physical exertion.
Minimum Qualifications:
On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:
Education: Have an associate degree from an accredited college or university.
AND
Experience: Have one year of experience in processing and expediting the purchase of commodities or services.
OR
Equivalency Notes: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Knowledge of office and purchasing procedures.
- Knowledge of the techniques of expediting and processing the purchase of commodities and services.
- Knowledge of procurement forms.
- Ability to compile data and prepare reports and forms.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to expedite the purchase of commodities and services.
- Ability to develop record keeping systems.
Background Check
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
Probation
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
Eligibility
Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
Education Accreditation
Applicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained es.org.
