Service Specialist

Salary Range: $67,687.00 - $ Annually

Hiring Salary Range: $67,687.00 - $92,739.00 Annually

Job Summary

The Service Specialist is responsible for providing targeted support and evidence-based interventions to youth and adults experiencing behavioral, emotional, academic, or social challenges. This role focuses on assessment, individualized service planning, crisis response, skill development, and collaboration with families, schools, community partners, and multidisciplinary teams to improve outcomes and promote long-term stability. The Intervention Specialist works proactively to identify risk factors, implement strategic interventions, and monitor progress to ensure participants receive comprehensive, person-centered support.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify behavioral, emotional, social, and environmental needs.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized intervention plans.
  • Provide direct one-on-one and group interventions using evidence-based practices.
  • Deliver crisis intervention and de-escalation support as needed.
  • Collaborate with families, caregivers, educators, case managers, and community providers.
  • Facilitate conflict resolution and restorative practices when appropriate.
  • Track and document progress, maintaining accurate and timely case notes.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case reviews.
  • Connect participants to community resources and supportive services.
  • Provide advocacy support within school, court, community, or social service systems.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical and professional standards
  • Certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or equivalent.
  • Experience working within school systems, juvenile justice, or community-based programs.
  • Knowledge of local community resources.
  • Lived experience relevant to reentry or community violence (where appropriate and aligned with agency policy).
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree in social work, Psychology, Counseling, Criminal Justice, Education, or related field (experience may substitute where permitted).

AND

Experience:

5+ years of experience working with at-risk youth, adults, families, or vulnerable populations. Experience providing crisis intervention and case management.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and database systems. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and non-traditional hours. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (if community-based).

OR

Equivalency Notes:
Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and behavioral intervention strategies.
  • Knowledge of crisis management and de-escalation techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build rapport with high-risk or vulnerable populations.
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build credibility and rapport with resistant participants.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong boundaries and professional judgment in high-risk environments.
  • Cultural competence and sensitivity to diverse populations.

Additional Information

Background Check

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint screening, and must be successfully completed.

Probation

All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a 6-month mandatory probation.
