The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is recruiting for a Field Superintendent
. The Field Superintendent is primarily responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and overseeing all functions to the operation and monitoring of all MTA service (Bus, Rail, and Paratransit). This position will provide day to day monitoring and guidance all Bus, Rail, and Mobility services, as well as monitor, investigate, and develop solutions to address a variety of operational and administrative issues.

This position primarily engages in the management of field supervision of the service monitoring operators for schedule adherence, for operational compliance to MTA rules and procedures, for delivery of transit service. In addition, this position also provides back‑up support and monitoring of Bus, Light Rail, and Metro services and works closely with the Bus, Metro, and Light Rail Control Centers in the coordination and operation of MTA services in the filed as well as during service disruptions and emergency situations.

This position is tasked with responsibility for delivery of safe, reliable public Transportation, as well as other duties as required/assigned.

This position is located in Baltimore City, Maryland.

Qualifications

Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Six years of experience in the operation of a transportation system or related operation that required the resolution of operational problems related to scheduled service, on demand service, equipment failure, inclement weather, or other service disruptions. Two years of the required experience must have involved supervising lower-level operations personnel or front-line operations personnel in a transit operation, a passenger transport operation, or other related operation.

Notes:

  • Additional experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
  • Additional education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at a rate of thirty credit hours for each year of the required experience for up to four years of the required non-supervisory experience.
  • Candidates may substitute equivalent U.S. Armed Forces military service experience for civilian experience cited above.

Special Requirements:

  • Employees are subject to call‑in 24 hours a day and will be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached. Employees must be willing and available for duty at such hours, day or night, as may be required in order to maintain continuous and safe operations of the Fixed Route Transit and Mobility service.
  • Employees may be required to work shifts, evenings, and weekends.
  • Employees in this classification are considered "Essential Employees" and may be required to sign and agree to all policies and procedures relating to "Essential Employees" status.
  • Employees in this classification are subject to pre‑employment drug testing and substance abuse testing in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations 49
    - Federal Department of Transportation Drug Alcohol Testing Protocols and Federal Transit Administration Alcohol Testing Rules, and Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
  • Licenses & Certifications
  • Employees in this classification are assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
  • Employees in this classification who are assigned to Field Operations (Bus Transportation) will be assigned duties that require a valid State of Maryland Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B with a Passenger (P) endorsement.
