Job Summary
The Regional Driver Trainer is responsible for improving driver safety, compliance, performance, and professionalism across assigned terminals. This role focuses on coaching drivers and operations personnel, promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, and serving as a key liaison between drivers, operations, and safety management.
Driver Training & Coaching- Train and assist drivers in the use of electronic logging devices (ELDs).
- Train and counsel drivers on safe driving practices, customer service expectations, safe work habits, hours of service compliance, equipment inspection and preventative maintenance, and hazardous materials regulations and compliance.
- Conduct driver road tests, ride‑alongs, and driver orientation meetings.
- Provide accident and injury counseling and follow‑up.
- Promote personal habits that improve driver safety and health.
- Maintain an open hotline for driver support related to hazardous materials and safety concerns.
- Continuously monitor driver performance using Brocade data, including top 10% and bottom 10% performers.
- Take appropriate action for recognition, coaching, retraining, or counseling.
- Review and counsel drivers using Geotab (HOS compliance).
- Communicate potential driver risk trends or hazards to Safety Management for further review.
- Participate in safety reviews and investigations as needed.
- Visit each assigned terminal at least once per month for yard checks, safety lane exercises, meetings with drivers and operations personnel, equipment inspections, drop lot inspections, and customer location visits (with prior approval).
- Document all interactions and submit detailed terminal visit reports to Safety Management and the Regional Director.
- Conduct terminal safety lane exercises monthly and document participation.
- Perform shop and warehouse inspections when requested and submit findings to the Supervisor.
- Communicate equipment defects to operations and maintenance and place equipment out of service when required.
- Conduct semi‑annual safety meetings at each assigned terminal (January–June and July–December).
- Coordinate make‑up training for drivers unable to attend.
- Communicate meeting schedules in advance with Safety Management.
- Collaborate with the trainer team to develop and implement periodic safety campaigns addressing targeted risk areas.
- Monitor, complete, and record all training and counseling activities in Brocade.
- Develop and present terminal‑specific action plans to the Supervisor when issues are identified.
- Submit accurate and timely Sun Trust expense reports with receipts, signed and dated, in a single PDF format.
- Maintain professional communication with Safety Management, Operations, and Maintenance teams.
- Must have a valid CDL Class A License.
- Must have at least 2 years of Class A driving experience.
- 5+ years of transportation experience.
- Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and compliance.
- Effective coaching and communication skills.
- Ability to analyze safety data and identify risk trends.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Commitment to teamwork, accountability, and doing the right thing.
- Yearly salary starting at $60,000.
