Role Description

We are seeking an experienced English subtitler to support caption and proofreading operations for premium film, TV, and streaming content across global markets, including subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing (SDH). This is a full-time, remote Senior QAer position overseeing editorial quality: consistency, accuracy, and cultural relevance across subtitle deliverables. You’ll work closely with the Lead to clarify requirements, manage feedback, and hit deadlines across multiple projects, while mentoring junior editors and improving editorial workflows.

Key Responsibilities

Edit and proofread English subtitles for grammatical and audio accuracy
Produce SDH and CC subtitles to industry standards (timing, readability, line/character limits, reading speed)
Annotate cultural references and idiomatic expressions for translation teams
Conduct QC passes to verify subtitle-to-audio fidelity
Localize spelling and conventions for British vs. U.S. English releases
Prepare, format, and convert subtitle files using proprietary subtitling software
Meet established delivery timelines across concurrent projects

Required Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of direct subtitling, captioning, or SDH/CC experience — this is non-negotiable; editing, proofreading, or writing experience from outside subtitling/localization does not meet this requirement
Working knowledge of subtitle timing, segmentation, reading speed, and accessibility standards (e.g., BBC/Netflix/Ofcom-style guidelines)
Hands-on experience with subtitling or captioning software (e.g., EZTitles, Aegisub, Subtitle Edit, WinCAPS, or similar) — must be able to learn proprietary tools quickly
Strong command of English grammar, punctuation, and style, applied specifically to subtitle formatting conventions
Ability to assess cultural nuance for adaptation and translation support
Excellent attention to detail and time management across multiple deadline-driven projects
Prior senior/lead experience in subtitling, localization, or post-production is a strong plus
