Husson University’s School of Physical therapy invites applications for a full-time, 9-month Professor position in the School of Physical Therapy to begin August 2026. The preferred candidate will have the professional experience and scholarly record that supports appointment as a Distinguished Professor. This position recognizes substantial achievement in research, teaching, and professional leadership. Candidates with less experience may apply at the associate/assistant level.
Primary program teaching needs are in motor control, motor learning, and pediatrics, although applicants with expertise in biomechanics, kinesiology, neuroscience, orthopedics or other movement science areas will also be considered.
The Distinguished Professor will play a key leadership role in advancing the academic mission of the School of Physical Therapy and the College of Health by mentoring faculty involved in research and strengthening interdisciplinary research and clinical collaborations across the institution and community.
The successful candidate will contribute to a program grounded in experiential, student-centered learning and committed to preparing practice-ready, ethically grounded physical therapists. Faculty members are expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching, maintain an active scholarly agenda, and participate in service at the program, school, and university levels. The ideal candidate will be eligible for PT licensure in Maine; individuals who are not physical therapists may be considered when their academic background aligns with program and institutional needs.

Examples of DutiesThe primary responsibilities of this position include teaching graduate-level courses in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program in areas aligned with the candidate’s expertise and the curricular needs of the program.
As a Distinguished Professor the candidate would:
- Maintain a nationally recognized program of scholarly activity, including externally funded research.
- Mentor faculty research throughout the College of Health.
- Contribute to the strategic growth of the department through interdisciplinary collaboration, program development, and external engagement.
All faculty members are expected to engage fully in teaching, advising, scholarship, and service. Faculty members are also expected to maintain currency in their discipline and support the program’s professional development activities for students.

- Basic computer skills required (Microsoft Office), skills with specialized educational software preferred.

- Organizational skills to enhance responsiveness to regional and specialized accreditation and program demands/deadlines.
- Administrative skills, including word processing, scheduling, event planning, and data entry/monitoring.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Eligibility for licensure as a PT in Maine required. Earned academic doctorate (PhD, EdD, DSc) or board-certified clinical specialty certifications preferred.
ExperienceAdvanced training or experience with neurological rehabilitation is preferred.
Minimum of three years of documented college/university-level teaching required.
Demonstrated area of clinical, academic, and/or scholarship expertise required.
Knowledge, Skills, and/or AbilitiesEffective teaching, organizational and communication skills, and instructional technology skills are required. Experience with distance education and web-based education desirable.
