Parenting Educator & Residential Coordinator

Penquis, a leading social services agency with over 50 years of community impact across Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Knox counties, is seeking a Parenting Educator for the McAuley Residence.

A collaborative initiative between Northern Light Mercy Hospital and Penquis, McAuley Residence provides a comprehensive, supportive environment for women in early recovery and their children. As Parenting Educator and Residential Coordinator, you are responsible for leading facilitation of parenting classes, individual parent coaching, and service coordination for residents at the McAuley Residence.

This is a full-time position based in the Bangor area. While standard hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, flexibility is required for occasional evenings and weekends to meet program needs.

• Ensure residents have access to meet basic needs, become self-sufficient, and gain strategies and skills to keep themselves and their children safe and healthy.
• As part of a multidisciplinary team of staff and service providers, this position will also assume temporary responsibilities for the management of the house and programming when the Program Director is absent or unavailable, under the guidance of Penquis and Northern Light supervisory staff.
• Facilitate both group and individual Parent Coaching sessions using recognized and/or accredited curricula and programming models.
• Obtain and/or maintain training and certification as needed to stay current on best practices and emerging service delivery models.
• Lead in the development and implementation of additional curricula and programming to meet the emerging, complex, and evolving needs of residents.
• Oversee the development and implementation of individualized family plans and provide referrals to services and resources within the community to assist residents in achieving their plan goals.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Child Development, Psychology or another related field.
• 2-3 years of experience working with complex family systems and dynamics (child protective system, domestic violence, substance use disorder).
• Previous experience working with families facing parenting challenges.
• Previous experience facilitating/teaching groups.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Computer proficiency and experience, including word processing skills.
• Experience facilitating meetings and training.
• Upon hire and periodically thereafter, must comply with Penquis background check requirements with satisfactory results as outlined in current contract provisions.

The rate of pay for this position starts at $23.22 per hour, and additional compensation may be given consideration with relevant experience.
