Adjunct – Psychology; On Campus Pool

Overview

The College of Science and Humanities at Husson University invites applications for a part-time adjunct faculty pool in Psychology. This posting will remain open for up to one year to build a pool of qualified candidates who may be considered for future teaching opportunities as departmental needs arise. Assignments may include day or evening courses and are expected to be delivered at Husson University’s Bangor campus.

The Psychology program serves students pursuing careers in mental health, healthcare, human services, rehabilitation, business, and related fields. We seek instructors who are committed to student‑centered teaching and helping students develop a strong foundation in psychological theory, research, and practice.

Adjunct instructors in Psychology may be considered to teach courses in the following areas:

• General Psychology – An introductory course that surveys the major areas of psychology, including biological bases of behavior, learning, cognition, development, personality, social behavior, and psychological disorders.
• Human Growth and Development – Focused on the study of human development across the lifespan. Topics include physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development as well as the environmental, cultural, and biological influences that shape individuals from infancy through late adulthood.
• Behavior Modification – Courses that explore principles of behavior change, learning theory, and evidence‑based strategies for modifying behavior across educational, clinical, and community settings.
• Diversity and Multiculturalism – Courses that examine cultural, social, and individual differences and their implications for psychological theory, research, and professional practice.
• Gerontology – Courses focused on the psychological, social, and biological aspects of aging and the experiences of older adults.
• Introduction to Counseling and Psychotherapy – Courses introducing major counseling theories, therapeutic approaches, helping skills, and ethical considerations in counseling practice.
• Physiological Psychology – Courses exploring the biological foundations of behavior, including brain function, neuroscience, sensation, perception, and psychopharmacology.
• Research Methods – Courses that introduce research design, data collection, ethical considerations, and the interpretation of psychological research.
• Trauma and Recovery – Courses examining the psychological impact of trauma, resilience, recovery processes, and evidence‑based interventions.

• An earned Master’s degree in Psychology or a closely related discipline is required.
• A PhD, PsyD, or other terminal degree in Psychology or a related field is preferred.
• Prior experience with college‑level teaching or instruction is preferred.
• Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the specialty areas listed above.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to convey complex concepts clearly.
• Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
• Commitment to providing engaging, inclusive, and student‑centered instruction.

General

Physical Requirements:

Work is generally performed in a classroom, laboratory, clinical, online, office, or other instructional setting. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

• Move about instructional, laboratory, clinical, office, or campus environments.
• Remain in a stationary position for extended periods while teaching, presenting, meeting with students, or performing related duties.
• Occasionally move, transport, or position instructional materials and equipment.

Must be able to read, prepare, evaluate, and review a variety of materials in both electronic and printed formats, and observe student activities as necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

Work is performed primarily in instructional, laboratory, clinical, office, or remote learning environments, depending on course assignment and modality. The position may require evening, weekend, or off‑site instructional activities.

Compensation is based on academic credentials, course assignment and course enrollment.

• Master’s Prepared:
  Up to $933.33 per credit hour*
• Doctoral or Equivalent Prepared:
  Up to $1,016.67 per credit hour*

• Master’s Prepared:
  Up to $1,016.67 per credit hour*
• Doctoral or Equivalent Prepared:
  Up to $1,100.00 per credit hour*

• Master’s Prepared: $1,150.00 per credit hour
• Doctoral or Equivalent Prepared: $1,250.00 per credit hour

* Compensation is dependent upon the number of students enrolled in the assigned course.
