Position: Adjunct – Chemistry Lecture & Lab Instructors (On Campus Applicant Pool)

Part-Time Adjunct Chemistry Faculty Pool

The College of Science and Humanities at Husson University invites applications for a part-time adjunct faculty pool in Chemistry. This posting will remain open for up to one year to build a pool of qualified candidates who may be considered for future teaching opportunities as departmental needs arise.

The Chemistry courses support students general education in the areas of lab science and upper-level courses for programs in healthcare professions, pre-medicine, biochemistry, and related fields.

We seek educators who are committed to student-centered teaching and helping students develop scientific knowledge, laboratory skills, critical thinking abilities, and an appreciation for the role of chemistry in understanding the natural world.

Assignments may include day or evening courses and are expected to be delivered on Husson University's Bangor campus.

Example of Duties

Adjunct instructors in Chemistry may be considered to teach lecture and laboratory courses in the following areas:

  • General Chemistry I and II – Foundational courses covering chemical principles, atomic and molecular structure, chemical reactions, stoichiometry, thermodynamics, kinetics, equilibrium, and laboratory techniques.
  • Organic Chemistry – Courses examining the structure, properties, reactions, and synthesis of carbon-containing compounds, including laboratory applications and techniques.
  • Biochemistry – Courses exploring the chemical processes of living systems, including proteins, nucleic acids, metabolism, enzyme function, and molecular biology.
  • Inorganic Chemistry – Courses focused on the structure, properties, and reactivity of inorganic compounds, including coordination chemistry, bonding theory, and materials applications.
  • Chemistry for Health Sciences – Courses designed for students in healthcare and allied health programs, emphasizing chemical principles relevant to human health and biological systems.
  • Additional teaching opportunities may arise within the Chemistry curriculum. Applicants are encouraged to indicate areas of expertise, teaching interests, laboratory experience, and any specialized areas of chemistry.

    Qualifications
    • An earned Master's degree in Chemistry or a closely related discipline is required.
    • A PhD or other terminal degree in Chemistry or a related field is preferred.
    • Successful college-level teaching experience is preferred.
    • Experience teaching laboratory courses and supervising student laboratory work is desirable.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate scientific concepts effectively to undergraduate students.
    • Commitment to providing engaging, inclusive, and student-centered instruction.
    • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and time-management skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty to support common course objectives, assessment practices, and student success initiatives.

    Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

    Physical Activities The essential functions of this position may require the ability to:

    • Move about instructional, laboratory, clinical, office, or campus environments.

    • Occasionally move, transport, or position instructional materials and equipment.

    Visual Requirements Must be able to read, prepare, evaluate, and review a variety of materials in both electronic and printed formats, and observe student activities as necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

    Working Conditions Work is performed primarily in instructional, laboratory, clinical, office, or remote learning environments, depending on course assignment and modality. The position may require evening, weekend, or off-site instructional activities.

    Compensation

    Compensation is based on academic credentials, course assignment and course enrollment.

    • Undergraduate Courses
      • Master's Prepared:
        Up to $933.33 per credit hour*
      • Doctoral or Equivalent Prepared:
        Up to $1,016.67 per credit hour*
    • Graduate Courses
      • Master's Prepared:
        Up to $1,016.67 per credit hour*
      • Doctoral or Equivalent Prepared:
        Up to $1,100.00 per credit hour*
    • Lab Sections (Undergraduate)
      • Master's Prepared: $1,150.00 per credit hour
      • Doctoral or Equivalent Prepared: $1,250.00 per credit hour

    * Compensation is dependent upon the number of students enrolled in the assigned course.
