Bangor School Department is seeking a visionary, relationship-centered Assistant Superintendent to help lead a diverse and dedicated public-school community through an era of innovation, renewal, and measurable student success. This role is designed for a systems thinker who can turn bold ideas into reliable practice while keeping students, families, staff, and the Bangor Community at the center of every decision.
The successful candidate will be a confident and collaborative executive leader who combines educational expertise with humility, curiosity, and follow-through. They will be able to move comfortably between the big picture and the details: setting a direction, building a team, addressing obstacles, and ensuring that commitments become results.
QualificationsMaine Certification as an Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent, or eligiblity for certification.
Advance degree in education leadership, administration, or a closely related field; doctoral preparation is welcomed.
Significant successful leadership experience in a public-school district, including building level and/or central office leadership.
Demonstrated experience in curriculum and instruction, school improvement, leadership development, student support systems, or district operations.
Experience working effectively with school boards, unions, families, community partners, and public agencies.
Knowledge of Maine public education, school finance, special education, civil rights obligations, and relevant state and federal requirements if preferred.
A record of leading initiatives that resulted in stronger systems, more equitable outcomes, improved student experiences, or increased organizational capacity.
