Overview

Key responsibilities of the Field Engineer role include conducting line and grade work for building layout and control, maintaining accurate contract and electronic documentation, and verifying work accuracy to ensure compliance with project tolerances. The role also involves reviewing contract drawings, specifications, and shop drawings to confirm proper coordination and installation practices. Additionally, you will prepare and complete project-specific as-built documentation and provide hands-on support for other assigned tasks as needed.

Functions
  • Partners with Project Management, and site Supervisors to confirm that proper procedures and policies are in place and are being executed to company expectations.
  • Perform and Record survey measurements utilizing specified survey equipment and proper documentation techniques.
  • Assist in obtaining, evaluating, and coordinating all information needed to construct the project in accordance with the contract documents to assure that the work meets all tolerances, safety standards, is within schedule requirements, and is constructed to the highest level of quality possible.
  • Perform line and grade work for building layout and control as required.
  • Assist in the maintenance of contract documents and electronic web-based documents for field operations.
  • Verify work as it is being placed to be sure it is accurate and within accepted tolerances.
  • Review contract drawings, and shop drawings to ensure proper coordination and installation procedures are followed.
  • Perform and complete, job specific, project as-builts.
  • May perform other duties as necessary or assigned.
Responsibilities
  • Must possess the ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments in a fashion to keep up in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Responsible for maintaining a work environment in which all equipment is kept clean, organized, and routinely checked for proper calibration.
  • Notify the Safety Director of any specific safety requirements for new projects, supporting a culture of safety.
  • Take on other tasks and responsibilities as assigned to support project and company objectives as needed.
  • Ensures NS Giles standards of safety and quality are adhered to by assertively championing NS Giles safety culture to project team.
  • Represent NS Giles in a professional manner.
Qualifications

Degree in construction related field, and a minimum of 3 years of experience as a Field Engineer/Construction Layout, or equivalent role in the construction industry. Candidates must have a solid understanding of the construction industry and job site safety requirements. This position requires a high level of fluency in reading civil, architectural, and structural plans, specifications, and related project documents. Prior experience operating and maintaining survey equipment (GPS, Robotic Total Station, Data Collectors, etc.)
