Penobscot Judicial Center, Bangor Internal Judicial Branch Employees Only The State of Maine Judicial Branch welcomes motivated law enforcement officers and those who have a minimum of Phase 1 pre-service training seeking to become law enforcement officers to join our dedicated team in serving the communities of Maine within the court system. The Office of Judicial Marshals is a law enforcement agency that plays an important role in our communities by providing a safe, accessible, efficient, and impartial system of dispute resolution.
Judicial Branch employees all support this mission, in their various roles. We have 31 courts across the state where we process over 130,000 cases each year in support of Maine’s almost 1.4 million residents.
General Summary :
This position is responsible for the supervision of Deputy Judicial Marshals in the absence of the Sergeant and is involved in providing for the safety and security of judges and justices, court staff, jurors, witnesses, other court participants, and the general public. As the supervisor, in the absence of the Sergeant, the Corporal is potentially responsible for Deputy Judicial Marshals at several locations within a geographic region.
Corporals can work in an environment often charged with intense emotion and conflict and must be able to move quickly and effectively from observation of routine activity to direct physical contact and confrontation. The presiding judge/justice provides direction during the course of legal proceedings. Deputy Judicial Marshals functioning as Corporals, provide the first line of defense for the court system when performing the duties of entry screening.
Corporals must be able to travel and work in different locations within the state with minimum notice; night and weekend assignments are possible.
The Corporal is a Deputy Judicial Marshal who assists the Sergeant in the performance of his/her duties, including the coordination of all judicial marshal services including trials, emergency procedures, courthouse safety, security training, threat assessment, health and safety procedures, and coordination with law enforcement agencies, and performing these duties in the absence of the Sergeant, as directed.
Salary Range:
Starting pay is $27.58 - $28.97 per hour.
Grade 13, $27.58 - $37.35 per hour. Geographical Cost of Living Stipend.

Essential Job Functions :
* In the absence of the Sergeant, or as requested, supervises Deputy Judicial Marshals, including the planning, assigning, and reviewing of work.
Manages security arrangements for each court day and session as the absence of the Sergeant, or as requested, is responsible for the daily scheduling and assignment of Deputy Judicial Marshals under his/her command.
Shall be required to perform all duties and assignments consistent with the duties of Deputy Judicial Marshals.
May be required to assist within the court room with the orderly flow of paperwork between the judge/justice, clerk’s office, defendants and other participants.…
