Job Details
• Work in the Intermediate Care Unit (PCU) of a hospital environment,
• Treats a diverse patient population including trauma, neuro (strokes, craniotomies), medical/surgical, and cardiac patients (STEMI, NSTEMI, CHF, AFIB, post-procedure),
• Typical assignment includes 1:3-4 RN-patient ratio and support from CNAs, phlebotomy, resource nurse, respiratory therapist, and hospitalist,
• Shift is 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM, 36 hours per week with every other weekend required,
• Must float to ED, ICU, or CCU as assigned, with possible intermediate assignments in these departments,
• Uses Cerner EMR (highly preferred), Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis, and GE monitors,
• General hospital orientation plus one day on the unit,
Job Requirements
• Active ME or compact RN license required,
• Minimum 1 year of intermediate/PCU level experience, or 2 years for Med/Surg RNs with some PCU exposure,
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; AACCN or CCRN preferred,
• Must have experience with trauma, strokes, and Q2H neuro checks,
• Strong cardiac skills including experience with temporary pacemakers, post-procedure cardiac care, and cardiac rhythm interpretation,
• Must have insulin and cardiac drip (gtt) titration experience,
• Proficiency with wound care, ventilated and trached patients, respiratory support therapies, and chest tubes required,
• Experience working with high flow O2, Bipap, wound Vacs, and general drain/ostomy care,
• Prior experience with Cerner charting is highly preferred,
• First-time travelers must have completed at least two 13-week assignments,
• Candidate must reside at least 100 miles south or southwest of Bangor, ME,
• Cannot have been a permanent employee at any Northern Light Health hospital,
Additional Information
• Perform advanced neuro, cardiac, and respiratory assessments and interventions including frequent neuro checks and management of critical drips,
• Responsible for patient care tasks such as starting PIVs, trach care, suctioning, and responding to alarms; IV/VAT team support available for some advanced lines,
• Support resources include a 24/7 ICU-trained resource nurse and RT, and trauma patients are monitored by trauma surgery team,
• Holiday coverage required as dictated by unit needs,
• Scrub color is flexible but must be professional,
• Free parking available in designated areas,
• Flu vaccination required for assignments starting 9/30/24 or later, with only medical exemptions considered and reviewed by facility,
