American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position with a focus on trauma, neuro, and cardiac patients, requiring a ME or compact RN license.

Job Details

• Work in the Intermediate Care Unit (PCU) of a Level II Trauma hospital,

• Care for trauma, neuro (stroke, stable craniotomies), respiratory, cardiac (STEMI, NSTEMI, CHF, post-intervention), and med/surg patients,

• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3-4 on both day and night shifts,

• Shift is 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, with weekend rotation every other weekend,

• Float to ED, ICU, or CCU may be required if there are needs for intermediate-level assignments,

• Uses Cerner EMR (experience highly preferred), Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis, and GE Monitors,

• Unit support includes CNAs, phlebotomy, resource nurse (ICU trained) 24/7, RT 24/7, and PT/OT on weekdays,

Job Requirements

• Active ME or compact RN license required,

• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required,

• Minimum 1 year of PCU/intermediate-level experience OR 2 years Med/Surg with some PCU experience,

• Recent experience with trauma and stroke patients, including frequent neuro checks,

• Experience with cardiac (temporary pacemakers, cardiac drips), neuro, respiratory (high-flow O2, bipap, trach/vent care), and med/surg procedures required,

• Ability to titrate insulin and cardiac drips required (travelers without this will not be considered),

• Cerner EMR experience highly preferred,

• Candidates must not have worked in any Northern Light Health facility in a permanent capacity,

• Must reside 100+ miles south or southwest of Bangor, ME to be eligible,

Additional Information

• Perform complex patient assessments, manage neuro and cardiac drips, and provide care to medically diverse acuity levels,

• Must be able to provide tracheostomy care, start IVs, perform wound VAC dressing changes, and interpret cardiac rhythms,

• Supported by a collaborative team including CNAs, RTs, ICU-trained resource nurses, and hospitalists,

• General hospital and one-day unit-specific orientation provided,

• Professional scrubs required (color not specified),

• Flu vaccination is mandatory for employment; only medical exemptions will be considered,

• Holiday and low census coverage may be required as per unit needs,

• First-time travelers must have completed at least two prior 13-week travel assignments to be considered,
