Experience:

Minimum of 1 year of Behavioral Health nursing required.
License:
State License required.

Certifications:

BLS, MOAB obtained on site (part of orientation).
Must-Have:
De-escalation experience, experience with physical restraints (chemical restraints are not used), medication passes, comfortability to run groups, documentation experience.

Description:

ASAP start needed.
Interviews will be conducted followed by manager approval.
Mix of day and evening shifts.
Must be willing to float between pediatric and adult units as needed.
This facility is a free-standing acute inpatient facility.
All patients come from an emergency department and are medically cleared.
It is not typical to have lines, drains, tubes, etc.
Involuntary and voluntary admissions are accepted.
The pediatric patient age range is 5-18 years old.
Common pediatric diagnoses include, but are not limited to, eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, op positional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria.
Adult diagnoses commonly include schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, and may also involve eating disorders, suicidal ideation, and anxiety.
There are no forensic patients or inmates in this facility.
Seclusion rooms are used when necessary.
Occasionally, there may be substance use disorder or detoxing patients, but they must be medically cleared.
Traditional medical and psychiatric care will be provided along with specialized therapies such as pet therapy, group sessions, and community gardens.
Patient ratios are as follows:
Day shift RN ratio is typically 1:5-6 and night shift ratio is 1:13 with resource support.
Pediatric psych techs available:
Day shift 6 and Night shift 2.
Adult psych techs available:
Day shift 2 and Night shift 2.
Support on the unit includes a nurse supervisor available evenings/weekends, a nurse manager during the day, a house administrator available overnight and weekends, charge nurse support, contracted phlebotomist for lab draws, nurse practitioner on site until 1600 and then on call overnight, psychiatrist daily rounds and on call from midnight to 0600, and occupational therapist available from , seven days per week.
Security on site will not respond to patient escalations; staff from all units, including techs and nurses, will respond to patient escalations.
Charting system used is Cerner with Pyxis for medication management.
Floating is expected between all pediatric and adult units.
Weekend rotation is required every other weekend.
Holidays will be worked in rotation.
Approval of time off is flexible up to 7 days but may need to extend if unable to work all shifts within a week.
Scrub color must be any solid color that is professional.
