Phlebotomist Representative I – Hospital

Quest Diagnostics is hiring a Phlebotomist Representative I – Hospital at Northern Lights Hospital in Bangor, ME. This hospital‑based position is scheduled Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 05:00–14:30, with rotational weekends.

Pay

Minimum of $20.00+ per hour. Salary offers are based on skills, training, experience, education, certifications, and performance bonus compensation may be applicable.

Responsibilities
  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection on patients of all age groups.
  • Accurately label and process specimens according to laboratory protocol.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of phlebotomy carts and work areas.
  • Administer oral solutions such as Glucola according to established training.
  • Data entry and processing of specimens, including labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing as required by test order.
  • Perform department‑related clerical duties when assigned such as data entry, inventory, stock supplies, and answer phones when needed.
  • Read, understand and comply with departmental policies, protocols, and procedures (e.g., Procedure Manuals, Safety Manual, Compliance Manual, Employee Handbook, Quality Assurance Manual) and ensure that all staff members follow instructions.
  • Observe infection control and safety protocols at all times.
  • Maintain all appropriate phlebotomy logs in a timely manner (e.g., maintenance logs and temperature logs).
  • Perform all data entry requirements accurately, including patient registration, test order entry from requisition or database, and management of Standing Orders.
  • Advise Group Leader or Supervisor of required repairs and maintenance when facilities are not in good repair.
  • Complete training courses and stay up to date with the latest phlebotomy techniques.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, nursing staff, and lab personnel.
  • Participate in special projects and teams.
  • Rotate through inpatient, outpatient, physician’s offices, and ED settings as scheduled.
  • Assist with training new staff or students as needed.
  • Stay up to date on company communications.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications Required Work Experience
  • Proficient phlebotomy skills including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
  • Flexibility and availability based on staffing needs, including weekends, holidays, on‑call, and overtime.
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and clean driving record, if applicable.
Preferred Work Experience
  • One year of phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Customer service and healthcare experience preferred.
  • Keyboard/data entry experience.
  • Depending on site operations and model, Hospital Phlebotomists may also support pre‑analytical laboratory functions.
Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Lift light to moderately heavy objects (1‑41 pounds) frequently; do not lift >41 pounds without assistance.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for long periods; requires long hours of eye‑hand coordination.
  • Use stairs and/or elevators to move between floors as required.
  • Perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand frequently throughout the day.
  • Position may require travel.
  • Extensive use of phone and PC.
  • Fine dexterity with hands and steadiness.
  • Positional coordination (balancing, bending/kneeling, pushing/pulling, reaching/twisting).
