DescriptionResponsibilities include sweeping, cleaning, shoveling snow, raking leaves, filling food carts, and transporting the food to designated areas, and operating low‑pressure boilers and elevators. May lead the work of employees engaged in janitorial tasks or dietary service work. Work is performed under general supervision.
Representative TasksLeads a small number of other employees and participates in the routine cleaning of buildings and the care of surrounding grounds in order to maintain building cleanliness. Oversees other employees and participates in unskilled dietary service work such as filling carts with food, moving carts to ward floor kitchens, and returning empty containers and dishes in order to assist in the feeding process.
Fires low‑pressure boilers, removes ashes, and cleans flues and boiler room in order to provide heat and minimize fire hazards. Sweeps and cleans walks, mows lawns, rakes leaves, and shovels snow in order to keep outside premises in an orderly condition.
Knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in building custodial and unskilled dietary service work. Ability to plan, assign, and lead the work of employees engaged in janitorial and unskilled dietary service work. Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions. Sufficient physical strength to perform a variety of routine manual tasks in the care, cleaning, and general maintenance of buildings and equipment and in heavy manual dietary service work.
Minimum QualificationsMust be able to: function as a lead worker in a structured work environment; follow instructions; operate manual and automatic custodial equipment; adhere to safety rules; adapt quickly to diverse work assignments; work harmoniously in a team environment; lift 40 lbs. unassisted; and follow a work schedule.
