About The Position

Travel Nurse Source  is working with Magnet Medical to find a qualified OR RN in Bangor, Maine, 04401.

As an Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN), you will play a crucial role in the surgical team, providing direct patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures. You will collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective surgical outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preoperative Preparation: assess patients’ medical histories and current conditions, develop individualized preoperative care plans, verify surgical consent, review medications, prepare patients physically and emotionally for surgery.
  • Intraoperative Nursing Care: assist in preparing the operating room environment, ensure sterile conditions and proper functioning of surgical equipment, collaborate with the surgical team, position patients, monitor vital signs, and assist with anesthesia induction and maintenance.
  • Surgical Assistance and Instrumentation: anticipate surgeons’ needs, pass instruments, sutures, and supplies as required, maintain sterile technique and adhere to aseptic practices throughout the surgical process.
  • Patient Advocacy and Safety: advocate for patient safety and comfort, monitor patients’ responses to surgical interventions, anticipate potential complications, and intervene promptly as needed.
  • Postoperative Care and Monitoring: transfer patients to post-anesthesia care units or recovery rooms, monitor vital signs, assess surgical incisions, apply dressings, manage drainage devices, and ensure pain management.
  • Documentation and Communication: maintain accurate and thorough documentation of intraoperative events, patient responses, and medications administered; communicate effectively with healthcare team members and provide updates on surgical progress.
  • Continuing Education and Professional Development: stay current with advancements in surgical techniques, equipment, and nursing practices; participate in quality improvement initiatives and surgical team debriefings.
