Description:
Start date needed for 9/28. Interviews conducted, followed by management approval. Must be willing to float between pediatric and adult units as needed. Pediatric patients are ages 5-18 years old, while adult patients are 18 and older. Patients receive care in a free-standing acute inpatient facility. All patients come from an emergency department and are medically cleared. Involuntary and voluntary admissions are accepted.
Common pediatric diagnoses include eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, op positional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria. Common adult diagnoses include schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, and may include eating disorders, suicidal ideation, and anxiety. No forensic patients or inmates are present in the facility. Seclusion rooms are used when necessary. Occasionally, will see patients with substance use disorder or those detoxing, but they must be medically cleared.
Traditional medical and psychiatric care is provided along with specialized therapies such as pet therapy, group sessions, and community gardens. Patient ratios are 1 RN to 5-6 patients during the day shift and 1 RN to 13 patients during the night shift with additional support. Pediatric staffing includes 6 Psych Techs during the day and 2 lt staffing includes 2 Psych Techs during the day and 2 at night.
A Charge Nurse may be assigned on the unit but this is not required. Management is open and encourages travelers to bring up any issues to work through them collaboratively. Charting system used is Cerner with Pyxis for medications. Travelers may float between all units for both adults and pediatrics. Work schedule includes a weekend rotation approximately every other week.
No call required. Holiday work is expected as part of the rotation. Scrub color must be any solid and professional. During winter, heavy snow conditions may be expected. In cases of patient escalation, a code leader will assign roles while de-escalating. Travelers may function as code leaders if needed. Debriefing forms must be completed after any escalation situation. Management provides support during code situations and MOAB will be reviewed onsite.
Scenario-based training is available every other week, and travelers should communicate if they require additional practice with de-escalation techniques. MOAB educator/trainer will be onsite.
