Registered Nurse - Pediatric Psych
Immediate start needed. Interviews will take place, followed by manager approval. Must be willing to float between pediatric and adult units as needed. Facility has 94 beds for pediatric patients, with 50 beds designated for pediatrics and 44 for adults. All patients come from an emergency department and are medically cleared. Involuntary and voluntary admissions are accepted. Pediatric patients typically range from ages 5 to 18, while adult patients are aged 18 and older.
Common pediatric diagnoses include eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, op positional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria. Adult patients commonly have schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, and may present with eating disorders, suicidal ideation, or anxiety. This facility does not handle forensic patients or inmates. Seclusion rooms are utilized when necessary. Substance use disorder or detoxing patients may occasionally be seen, provided they are medically cleared.
Traditional medical and psychiatric care will be provided along with specialized therapies such as pet therapy, group sessions, and community gardening. Patient ratios are typically 1 nurse to 5-6 patients during the day and 1 nurse to 13 patients at night, with resource support available. Psych Techs are available for assistance, with different ratios for pediatric and adult units during both day and night shifts.
Support on the unit includes a Director of Nursing, Nurse Manager, and a House Administrator, who is available overnight and on weekends. A Nurse Practitioner is on-site until 4 PM and on-call overnight. The psychiatrist conducts daily rounds and is available on-call during off hours. An occupational therapist is on-site from 8 AM to 4:30 PM, seven days a week.
Security is on-site but will not respond to patient escalations; staff from various units will manage these situations. The charting system in use is Cerner, and Pyxis is utilized for medication management. Travelers may float between pediatric and adult units and must request manager approval if they are uncomfortable with floating. The schedule includes a weekend rotation every other weekend.
Travelers are expected to work holidays in rotation. Modified self-scheduling allows travelers to sign up for preferred shifts, which will be reviewed for coverage. If shifts are not signed up for during the designated time, travelers will be automatically assigned to vacant shifts. Scrub color should be any solid color and must be professional. During winter, heavy snow conditions are expected.
In case of an escalation, a code leader will assign roles to other staff while verbally de-escalating the patient. Travelers may have the opportunity to act as the code leader. A debriefing form should be completed after any code situation, and management will assist with these situations. Scenario-based training is available every other week for practice, and MOAB training will be reviewed again on-site.
