American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Pediatric Psych unit requiring a Maine or compact license and at least 1 year of Behavioral Health nursing experience.
Details- Free-standing acute inpatient psychiatric facility with 94 total beds (50 pediatric, 44 adult)
- Pediatric unit serves ages 5-18 with diagnoses including eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, op positional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria
- Adult unit serves patients 18+ including geriatric population with schizophrenia, MDD, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, suicidal ideation, and anxiety
- All patients are medically cleared prior to admission; contracted ER located 5 minutes away
- No forensic patients or inmates; unit is locked but does not house patients under arrest
- Seclusion rooms used when necessary; chemical restraints are not utilized
- RN patient ratios are 1:5-6 during days and 1:13 at night with resource support
- Psych Tech staffing varies by unit and shift
- 12-hour shifts scheduled 7A-7P for 48 hours per week
- Weekend rotation required every other Saturday and Sunday
- Floating required between adult and pediatric psychiatric units
- No on-call responsibilities
- Uses Cerner EMR and Pyxis medication dispensing system
- Active RN license (Maine or Compact) required
- Current BLS certification required
- MOAB certification obtained on-site as part of orientation
- Minimum 1 year of Behavioral Health nursing experience required
- Pediatric Behavioral Health experience preferred
- Experience with de-escalation techniques and physical restraint procedures required
- Comfortable administering medication passes and facilitating group therapy sessions
- Strong clinical documentation skills required
- Provide psychiatric nursing care across both pediatric and adult behavioral health units
- May have the opportunity to serve as Charge Nurse, though not required
- Unit supported by DON/CNO, Nurse Manager, House Administrator, Charge Nurse, Psych Techs, contracted phlebotomist, Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatrist, and Occupational Therapist
- Security staff do not respond to patient escalations; all unit staff assist during escalation events
- Orientation includes one week of day shift training followed by a second week on the contracted shift schedule
- Modified self-scheduling process used with a predetermined weekend rotation
- Expected to work holidays in rotation
- Scrubs must be any solid, professional color
- Free on-site parking available
- Heavy snow conditions expected during winter months
- Ongoing scenario-based de-escalation training offered every other week
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
