Description:
Urgent start needed. Interviews conducted with manager approval. Must be willing to float between adult and pediatric units as needed.
General Information:
Facility is a free-standing acute inpatient facility with a contracted emergency room nearby. All patients are medically cleared before admission and include both involuntary and voluntary cases. Pediatric patients ages range from 5 to 18 years old. Adult patients are aged 18 and above. Pediatric common diagnoses include eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, op positional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria.
Adult common diagnoses include schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, and eating disorders, along with anxiety and suicidal ideation. The facility does not house forensic patients or inmates. Seclusion rooms are available when necessary. Occasional exposure to substance use disorder or detox patients may occur, provided they are medically cleared. Traditional medical and psychiatric care is provided, along with specialized therapies including pet therapy, group sessions, and community gardens.
Patient Ratios: RN patient ratio during the day is 1:5-6 and during the night is 1:13 with resource support. Psych Techs during the day for pediatric patients is 6 and at night is 2. Psych Techs during the day for adults is 2 and at night is 2. Support on the Unit:
Director of Nursing and Clinical Nurse Manager available during the day. The manager is very supportive and encourages communication regarding any issues. There is a house administrator available overnight and on weekends. Charge nurse may have patient assignments but support staff will assist. Nurse practitioner is on site until 4 PM and on call overnight. Psychiatrist conducts daily rounds and is on call from midnight to 6 AM.
Occupational therapist is available from 8 AM to 4:30 PM, seven days a week. Security is on-site but will not respond to patient escalations; staff from all units respond to escalations.

Nurses may be required to float between adult and pediatric units. Holiday Expectations:
Staff is expected to work holidays during the rotation. Scheduling:
Modified self-scheduling is implemented, allowing travelers to sign up for preferred shifts. Manager and scheduler will review to ensure all shifts are covered. If a traveler does not sign up during the designated time, they will be automatically assigned vacant shifts. Predetermined weekend rotations are established. Other Notes:
Scrub color must be a solid color and professional in appearance. There are heavy snow conditions expected during the winter months. If there is an escalation, a designated code leader will assign roles to staff while verbally de-escalating the patient. Travelers may have the opportunity to function as the code leader, but it is not mandatory. A debriefing form should be completed after each code situation.
Management will assist during code situations, and ongoing MOAB training will be provided on-site. Travelers should communicate if they need more practice with de-escalation techniques. Scenario-based training will occur every other week for additional practice.
