Registered Nurse - Pediatric Psychiatric

Immediate start needed. Interviews will be conducted followed by manager approval. Must be willing to float between pediatric and adult units as needed.

The facility has a total of 94 beds, with 50 for pediatrics and 44 for adults. All patients come from an emergency department and are medically cleared before admission. Involuntary and voluntary admissions are accepted. Patient ages for pediatrics range from 5 to 18 years old. Adults are 18 years and older, including geriatric patients. Common pediatric diagnoses include eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, op positional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria.

Common adult diagnoses include schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, as well as eating disorders, suicidal ideation, and anxiety. There are no forensic patients or inmates; the facility is secure but not to the extent of holding patients under arrest. Seclusion rooms are used when necessary. Occasionally, substance use disorder or detoxing patients may be seen, but they must be medically cleared.

Traditional medical and psychiatric care is provided, along with specialized therapies such as pet therapy, group sessions, and community gardens.

Patient ratios are as follows:
Day shift: 1 nurse to 5-6 patients in pediatrics; 1 nurse to 13 patients at night with resource support. Psych Tech support: 6 Psych Techs on days and 2 on nights for pediatrics; 2 Psych Techs on both shifts for adults. Support on the unit includes a Director of Nursing and Nurse Manager during the day, along with available administrators overnight and on weekends.

Nurse practitioners are on site until 4 PM and then on call overnight. Psychiatrists perform daily rounds and are on call during specified hours. Occupational therapy is available 7 days per week. Security is on site but does not respond to patient escalations. The charting system used is Cerner. Floating may occur between all units. If travelers are not comfortable floating to pediatrics, manager approval is required.

Travelers will work day shifts for the first week; 12-hour shifts as scheduled thereafter. Weekend rotation is required every other weekend. Holiday work is expected to be shared among the staff. Travelers will sign up for preferred shifts during scheduling, with a modified self-scheduling format. Scrub color is any solid, professional tone. Should any escalation occur, there is a designated code leader who will assign tasks while verbally de-escalating the patient.

Travelers may have the opportunity to act as the code leader if comfortable. Management encourages open communication regarding any issues or the need for additional de-escalation practice. Scenario-based training sessions are offered every other week for practice.
