Description

American Traveler is hiring a Labor & Delivery RN for a 12-hour night shift assignment requiring at least 2 years of L&D experience and a Maine or compact RN license.

Details
  • Level III NICU and Newborn Nursery facility handling a high-referral, high-acuity patient population
  • Averages approximately 1,800 deliveries per year with about 4 scheduled events daily (c-sections, versions, etc)
  • Unit includes 7 labor rooms, 2 triage rooms, 2 OR suites, and 25 Postpartum/Antepartum/GYN/Mother-Baby beds
  • Labor & Delivery and Mother-Baby units are physically separate but connected within a locked, circular unit
  • Patient ratios range from 1:1 for active labor to 1:3 for cervical ripening, laboring, and couplet/antepartum care
  • EMR system is Cerner with Fetal Link for fetal monitoring
  • Uses Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing system
  • Shift is 7P-7A on a 12-hour night schedule, 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation requires working at least 4 of 8 scheduled weekend shifts
  • No call requirement, though call may be available to pick up
  • Holiday coverage required on a rotating basis
  • May float to Mother-Baby, Antepartum, or Postpartum units
Requirements
  • Active RN license (Maine or Compact) required
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience required
  • Must have completed at least one prior travel assignment at a facility of comparable size and acuity
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Intermediate or Advanced FHM, and MOAB
  • Skilled in Pitocin titration, fetal scalp electrode placement, cervical exams, and epidural assistance
  • Experience managing insulin and magnesium drips
  • Skilled in shoulder dystocia management and circulating for c-sections
  • Competent in neonatal resuscitation and receiving babies in the OR
  • Experience with IUPC placement and monitoring
  • Ability to provide lactation support and follow safe skin-to-skin protocols
Additional Information
  • Provide direct patient care across labor, delivery, and postpartum stages including high-risk conditions such as PIH, GDM, pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, HELLP, and postpartum hemorrhage
  • Support newborn care including feeding, vitals, and continuous surveillance documentation when infants remain with mother for extended monitoring
  • Unit is supported by 24/7 charge nurse, CST, anesthesia, RT, house supervisor, and OB provider coverage
  • Certified Lactation Consultants and IBCLCs are available to assist in labor rooms
  • Orientation includes one day with HR/preceptor, one day of OR/PACU training, and one day with a preceptor on the contracted shift
  • Navy scrubs are provided on site with an allotted number of uses via a scrub machine
  • Free on-site parking is available
  • Flu vaccination is required for clearance to start, with only medical exemptions accepted for review
  • Candidates must reside 100+ miles south or southwest of the facility to be considered
  • Candidates who have previously worked in a permanent capacity at any Northern Light Health hospital are not eligible
  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
