Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position at a Level III NICU facility, requiring at least 2 years of L&D experience and prior travel assignment experience.

Details
  • Level III NICU facility with Newborn Nursery and approximately 1,800 deliveries per year
  • Labor & Delivery unit includes 7 labor rooms, 2 triage rooms, and 2 OR suites
  • Postpartum/Antepartum/GYN/Mother-Baby unit with 25 beds, sometimes used for Antepartum overflow monitored by L&D RNs
  • Rooming-in model for Mother-Baby with L&D and Mother-Baby as physically separate but adjacent units
  • Patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:1-3 for cervical ripening and laboring patients, 1:1 for active labor, and 3 couplets/antepartum patients for postpartum assignments
  • Typically 4 scheduled events daily including c-sections and versions
  • EMR:
    Cerner with Fetal Link; IV pumps:
    Alaris; medication dispensing via Pyxis
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (7P-7A), 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation required, at least 4 of 8 weekend shifts per schedule
  • No mandatory call, though pick-up call may be available
  • Holiday rotation required
  • May float to Mother-Baby, Antepartum, or Postpartum units
Requirements
  • Active RN license (Maine or Compact) required
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience required
  • Must have completed at least one prior travel assignment at a comparably sized and acuity facility
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Intermediate or Advanced FHM, and MOAB
  • Skills required include Pitocin titration, fetal scalp electrode placement, cervical exams, epidural assistance, insulin and magnesium drip management, shoulder dystocia management, c-section circulating or newborn reception in OR, neonatal resuscitation, and IUPC placement/monitoring
  • Newborn care skills including lactation support and safe skin-to-skin protocol required
  • Flu vaccination required for clearance to start, with medical exemptions only considered and subject to facility approval
Additional Information
  • Provide comprehensive labor, delivery, and postpartum nursing care including high-risk conditions such as PIH, GDM, pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, HELLP syndrome, and postpartum hemorrhage
  • Support newborn monitoring and documentation when infants remain with mother for continuous surveillance
  • Facility serves a large geographical area with significant NICU referral volume, one of only two NICUs in Maine
  • Unit supported by 24/7 charge nurse coverage, in-house CST, anesthesia, house supervisor, respiratory therapy, and OB provider on-call coverage
  • Orientation includes one day with HR/preceptor, one day of OR/PACU training, and one day with a preceptor on the contracted shift
  • Navy scrubs provided on-site with allotted scrub machine credits
  • Free on-site parking available
  • Candidates with charge nurse experience should highlight this during consideration
  • Preference given to candidates residing 100+ miles south/southwest of the facility
  • Candidates who have previously worked in a permanent capacity at any Northern Light Health hospital will not be considered
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this role
