Certifications: CPR, LV Certification

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a BSN preferred

Description:

Assists in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Department.

Ensures that the highest quality of care is maintained at all times.

Assumes the duties of the Director of Nursing in their absence as directed.

Develops, interprets, implements, and evaluates standards of care, policies, and procedures for all patient/resident populations.

Assures patient/resident rights by directing and/or providing care that considers their values and belief systems.

Functions as a patient/resident advocate by providing information and ensuring confidentiality of records.

Assists in preparing staff to recognize potential problems, mobilize resources, and take appropriate action.

Directs staff in responding to complex patient/resident care priorities.

Acts as a role model and facilitator for collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.

Ensures and maintains the competencies of the nursing staff.

Collaborates with other healthcare team members to provide safe care to patients/residents.

Monitors the quality of all aspects of the medical record through open and closed chart reviews.

Participates in quality improvement activities and implements corrective actions when necessary.

Communicates knowledge formally and informally to meet the needs of patients/residents and staff.

Acts as a consultant and participates in the development of interdisciplinary patient/resident education plans.

Identifies staff learning needs and assists in the development and implementation of educational programs.

Encourages and participates in educational programs and research that contribute to the improvement of nursing practice.

Directs nursing personnel in emergency situations.

Evaluates nursing practice and care delivery systems and recommends changes as needed.

Intervenes in incidents and implements policies and procedures as indicated.

Completes employee performance appraisals as directed.

Assumes responsibility for narcotics and controlled drugs.

Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients/resident, family members, and the general public.

Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and regulations pertaining to long-term care.

Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with all personnel.

Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and incorporate them into existing nursing practices.

Must be able to relay information concerning a patient's/resident's condition.

Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
