- Perform inspections of retail food stores, food processors, food storage warehouses, and home food processors
- Conduct sanitation and public health inspections
- Perform inspections of package checking and method of sale, dairy farm and milk processing operations, and other inspections as required
- Gather information and interpret regulations
- Assess findings to determine non-compliance
- Write accurate, descriptive, and precise non-compliance records
- Perform statewide relief inspections as necessary
- Attend out-of-state training and complete required training with a passing grade
- Use state vehicles to perform inspections
- Four years of education, training, and/or experience in microbiology, agricultural science, food science, applied mechanics, regulatory/law enforcement, or weights and measures
- Federal (USDA)/State Inspector License for the products being inspected required after hire and before attaining permanent status
- Must be willing to attend out-of-state training
- Must successfully complete all training with a passing grade
- Must be willing to work schedules including holidays and scheduled days off as necessary
- Must be willing to perform relief inspections statewide
- Valid driver’s license required
- Competency in Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, required
- Must be able to gather information, interpret regulations, assess findings, and write accurate, descriptive, and precise non-compliance records
- Food safety rules or regulations, food safety training, HACCP, SSOP, microbiology, and computer literacy are a plus
- Good personal hygiene and sanitation habits expected
- Currently not eligible for visa sponsorship or STEM OPT extensions
Demonstrates expertise in conducting inspections and assessments in food safety, regulatory compliance, and sanitation. Proficient in interpreting regulations and documenting non-compliance findings accurately.
