Summary:
An electrician in a healthcare facility is responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of electrical systems critical to patient care, life safety, and regulatory compliance. This role supports continuous hospital operations by ensuring all electrical infrastructure meets regulatory and Maine State licensing requirements.
- Maintain and troubleshoot normal and emergency power systems (generators, ATS), life safety systems (fire alarm, egress lighting), critical branch circuits (ICU, ORs, medical gas alarms), perform preventative maintenance on panels, breakers, transformers, lighting and controls.
- Identify root cause of electrical failures and implement timely and effective solutions. Respond to urgent issues impacting patient care with sound judgement and prioritization. Escalate complex issues appropriately while maintaining continuity of operations.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with staff, leadership, and external vendors. Provide status updates on work orders, projects, and system issues. Deliver strong customer service by addressing concerns promptly and respectfully.
- Take initiative to identify and address potential safety hazards or system deficiencies. Work independently with minimal supervision while managing assigned workload. Follow through on tasks to completion with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Safety operate power tools, hand tools, and electrical testing equipment (multimeters, clamp meters, megohm meters). Maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition.
- Utilize computerized maintenance management system (TMS) to receive, document, and close work orders. Accurately document all work performed, including preventative maintenance and corrective actions. Use basic computer applications (email, Microsoft products).
- Attend and complete all required hospital and department-specific education and training programs. Maintain required licenses and certifications in good standing. Stay current on electrical codes, safety practices, and healthcare facility requirements.
