Position: SHIPWRIGHT LEADER
Summary

You will serve as a SHIPWRIGHT LEADER in the Waterfront Service Department of TRIDENT REFIT FACILITY, BANGOR.

Duties

Help
  • You will lead other workers and instructs them on work requirements, methods, procedures as needed and inspect work while in progress to ensure verbatim compliance with technical directives.
  • You will be responsible for considering skills required and material, specifications and equipment available to do the work.
  • You will maintain schedule and changes in work plans as directed by supervisor and keep supervisor informed concerning work progress, technical and personnel problems, material and manpower requirements.
  • You will be building supporting cradles for dry docking vessels.
  • You will establish reference points and lines for locating hull parts, machinery, deck, bulkheads, superstructure or foundations and other equipment and fittings with relation to the overall ship alignment, shape and balance.
  • You will plan, coordinate, and execute removal, repair and replacement of hull damping material e.g. absorber, reflector tile, plastic graphite tile, special hull treatment tile, etc. using pneumatic chipping guns, heat induction, and hydro blasting.
  • You will perform the construction of protective coverings to prevent damage to equipment and fixtures that are not being worked on or new equipment installed during the overhaul.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You may be required to qualify for a government operator license on: forklifts, aerial work platforms, vehicles, and bridge cranes.
  • This position will require work in shop areas, aboard ships and submarines and outdoors in all kinds of weather and are exposed to industrial noises generated or caused by operating machinery and equipment.
  • You will be required to lift and carry fifty(S0) pounds and occasionally over fifty (50) pounds. Must be able to climb and work from vertical ladders, from staging and platforms, and occasionally, from suspended platforms and crane boxes.
Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
