Training ProgramAs part of Gray Media's high‑octane, 10‑week paid internship program, you'll work shoulder‑to‑shoulder with our experienced engineering team, keeping Maine's leading news station on the air.
General Responsibilities- Step into a real broadcast engineering position and take on hands‑on tasks that directly support live newscasts, studio productions, and post‑production operations that reach thousands of Mainers every single day.
- Assist with the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of broadcast RF, AV, and IT systems and software from studio audio/video systems and routing to networking infrastructure and transmission equipment.
- Help ensure all equipment is operating correctly before and during live event broadcasts—learning to identify, correct, and document technical problems with the appropriate sense of urgency.
- Support IT‑based workflows, digital systems, and streaming platforms across baseband, RF, and IP‑based systems.
- Learn FCC operational standards and broadcast compliance practices.
- Assist with preventative maintenance, equipment inspections, and documentation of configuration changes that keep our operation running at peak performance.
- Position yourself at the front of the line for full‑time engineering opportunities within Gray Media's network of 113 stations across the U.S.
- Current enrollment:
College Junior or Senior pursuing a degree in Broadcast Technology, Electronics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. - "Doer" mindset:
You’re not afraid to roll up your sleeves, pick up a tool, and tackle a technical challenge head‑on. - Tech curiosity:
Foundational understanding of professional audio/video equipment, computer networking, and operating systems, plus a hunger to learn more. - Strong work ethic:
You bring urgency, organization, a positive attitude, and a "can‑do" spirit to every shift, and you work well with others across departments and disciplines. - Reliability:
Ready to commit to the full 10‑week program, the 25‑hour weekly schedule, and the occasional flexible hour that a live, 24/7 broadcast environment demands. - Physical readiness:
Ability to perform basic physical tasks, including bending and lifting to 50 lbs; occasional work on ladders or in confined spaces may be required. - Passion for local media:
You care about the community and want to see firsthand how local television technology makes a real difference every single day. - A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required.
The intern rate of pay can range from minimum wage in your state to $15 an hour.
