Overview
This position is responsible for the management and administration of all phases of one major intercollegiate sport team. The Head Volleyball Coach will be responsible for instructing students in the areas of sport fundamentals, sportsmanship, and leadership. This is an 11‑month position.
Examples of Duties- Responsible for the day‑to‑day operations of one major intercollegiate sport team, including coaching, scheduling, conditioning, contest preparation, practice planning, budget preparation and management, fundraising, purchasing and care of equipment, planning and supervision of team travel.
- Provides leadership, support, and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student‑athletes, including advising team members in academic, disciplinary, and personal matters.
- Provides individual and group instruction to students on competition strategies, conditioning, and technical skills.
- Responsible for developing and implementing a scouting/recruiting and retention plan to attract and retain student‑athletes with strong character and an academic profile that aligns with the mission of Husson University and Husson Athletics.
- Works collaboratively with various departments across campus (including admissions, Center for Student Success, advancement, and alumni) to ensure we are providing the best student‑athlete experience possible.
The successful candidate will show the ability to work successfully in a highly competitive, NCAA Division III, collegiate environment.
- Responsible for administrative game coverage for predetermined home games/matches throughout the year.
- Preparing contest venues for games.
- Serving as the on‑site supervisor/contact person.
- Greeting teams.
- Event breakdown after games.
- Assist the Associate Director of Athletics/Executive Director of Athletics with any other administrative duties/day‑to‑day operational and event management requirements as needed.
The normal work environment includes working indoors on a daily basis with regard to both practices and games. Work on nights, weekends, and overnight travel is expected. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Additional duties determined based on the skill set of the employee and needs of the Athletic Department and Institution.
- Additional administrative duties will be assigned.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience: Prior intercollegiate coaching and/or playing experience required; head coaching experience at the collegiate level is preferred.
- Valid driver’s license, successful driver’s license background check, and successful completion of van familiarization course required.
