Position Summary

Do you love driving? Are you interested in supporting our community by ensuring people can get where they need to go? Consider applying for fixed route transit driver and paratransit positions for immediate vacancies.

The Community Connector is owned and operated by the City of Bangor and provides service to our region including Bangor, Brewer, Hampden, Veazie, Old Town, Orono, and UMaine. We operate six days a week and some holidays, providing important, safe, affordable, and reliable transportation services. Be sure to check out our newly built Transit Center in Downtown Bangor with dedicated space for our drivers and passengers alike.

In this position you will be guaranteed 30+ hours per week and have options to earn overtime. Pay range is $21.05 - $28.96 based on experience and qualifications. Future pay increases are based on merit and cost of living increases as determined by the collective bargaining agreement.

Benefits
  • Several options for health insurance, including low deductible plans with a small or no co-pay for many services, and up to 80% of premiums are paid by the City.
  • A retirement plan with generous City contribution of 9%.
  • Low-cost dental and vision insurance.
  • Long-term disability, 100% paid by the City.
  • Earned Time Off.
  • Six paid non-operating holidays; seven operating holidays paid at time and a half for hours worked.
  • Employee Assistance and Wellness program options.
Qualifications

Applicants must have an active Class B license and a clean driving record. Preference is given to candidates who also have a Passenger or “P” endorsement, but the City provides paid training to applicants with a Class B license who do not have a “P” endorsement. Applicants must be willing to work a flexible schedule and enjoy working with the public.

Work assignments are based on a twice a year bidding process as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement. Pre‑employment drug and alcohol test is required. Successful applicants will be subject to further testing in accordance with federal F.T.A. regulations.

Application Process

Applications (required) and resumes (optional) can be submitted via the City's application link (HR Upload Portal (bangormaine.gov)). Questions and application materials can also be emailed to apply. Applications are reviewed when received and qualified candidates are typically contacted within three days of applying.
