Mobile

Diesel Technician Level II

The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II is responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative‑maintenance inspections, and light and follow‑up repairs. The technician may also perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a senior technician and continues to develop advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques. Compliance with company policies and achievement of high performance metrics are essential.

DUTIES
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment such as electrical, braking, cooling systems, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling, steering, and powertrain components.
  • Inspect, test, and evaluate defective equipment using handheld computers, pressure gauges, and other instruments.
  • Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure safe operation.
  • Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and use sound judgment to determine accurate solutions.
  • Manage parts inventory, perform periodic reconciliation, and keep the service truck supplied.
  • Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicles, performing safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to assess needs, provide assistance, and resolve issues.
  • Prioritize concurrent tasks and manage daily time allocations.
  • Use hand and precision tools, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Document work according to company standards and upload photos, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) via the iOS TRAIT application.
  • Complete DOT forms and other documentation promptly.
  • Work independently and manage own schedule.
  • Maintain productivity and meet standard repair times.
  • Source parts from approved vendors as needed.
  • Communicate with management and support staff for approvals and estimates.
  • Perform all work in compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and company safety policies.
REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of related experience. Other combinations such as a degree/certification or 5 years experience are acceptable.
  • Possess a set of hand tools required for job duties.
  • Obtain ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
  • Must successfully pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical (or provide a valid DOT medical card with >4 months remaining).
  • Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain a Driver Qualification File.
  • Safe drivers required; valid state‑of‑residence driver’s license necessary.
