The City of Banning is seeking qualified candidates to fill the vacancy for a Public Safety Dispatcher.

Application Requirements

Applications without a valid WPM certificate will not be considered.

Applications without the State of California Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) Dispatcher Certificate will not be considered.

Typing Certificate: 40 NET words per minute; a WPM verification certificate dated within the last 12 months must be submitted.

POST Certificate:
State of California Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) Dispatcher Certificate, submitted with application.

Job Definition

Under general supervision, performs duties associated with receiving emergency and non‑emergency calls for Police service and dispatching appropriate units to assist the public.

  • Undertake and provide a variety of law‑enforcement radio‑dispatch and information support services associated with assessing caller needs, dispatching law‑enforcement, medical and/or other public safety services required specific to the need identified.
  • Answer, identify and prioritize emergency and non‑emergency calls and requests for service.
  • Assess, analyze, evaluate and process emergency and/or routine requests for law‑enforcement, medical and/or related services/assistance.
  • Track location and availability of law‑enforcement and other service responders.
  • Monitor and maintain contact with situation and individuals involved.
  • Conduct regular and periodic checks regarding status of officers and others dispatched to calls.
  • Access a variety of local, state and/or national databases, research information and respond to requests for data and information.
  • Update and maintain a variety of files and records.
