Teacher's Aide / Teaching Assistant

Community Christian School of Baraboo prayerfully supports the classroom teacher in guiding students in the development of academic skills, Christian character, and responsible habits. The aide assists in creating a Christ-honoring learning environment where students are supported spiritually, academically, socially, and emotionally.

Reports To:

Principal; takes day-to-day direction from the assigned classroom teacher and/or administrator.

Qualifications

The Teacher's Aide / Teaching Assistant shall:

  • Have received Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord.
  • Be in agreement with the Statement of Faith and Christian philosophy of education of Community Christian School of Baraboo.
  • Faithfully attend a local church whose fundamental beliefs are in agreement with the CCS Statement of Faith.
  • Reflect the purpose of the school, which is to honor Christ in every class and activity.
  • Possess, at minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent; additional education, training, or experience in education, childcare, or student support is preferred.
  • Have experience working with children or students in a classroom, ministry, childcare, or similar setting preferred.
  • Demonstrate the spiritual maturity, academic ability, personal character, and teachable spirit necessary to assist in training students "in the way they should go."
Duties and Responsibilities

The Teacher's Aide / Teaching Assistant shall assist faculty and support day-to-day school functions by:

  • Assisting with the set-up, organization, and clean-up of the learning environment.
  • Supporting the classroom teacher with daily instruction, activities, routines, and classroom procedures.
  • Assisting with small-group instruction, tutoring, reading support, student practice, and academic reinforcement under the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • Supervising students in the classroom when the lead teacher is briefly out of the room.
  • Supervising students during recess, lunch, transitions, study halls, and other assigned duties.
  • Supervising high school study halls as needed, including maintaining a quiet, productive environment and communicating concerns to administration.
  • Assisting with classroom management and student behavior in accordance with school discipline procedures and under the direction of the classroom teacher and/or administration.
  • Helping maintain a clean, attractive, safe, and well-ordered classroom.
  • Assisting with general classroom preparation, including photocopying, laminating, preparing bulletin boards, organizing materials, preparing art projects, and other appropriate tasks.
  • Assisting with classroom activities such as art projects, Bible time, singing, field trips, guest speakers, special events, and other learning activities as assigned.
  • Treating all students with dignity, respect, patience, and care.
  • Maintaining professional attitudes and communication when interacting with students, parents, school personnel, and community members.
  • Representing the school in a favorable and professional manner to families, churches, and the general public.
  • Developing and maintaining rapport with students, parents, and staff by treating others with friendliness, dignity, and consideration.
  • Following the Matthew 18 principle in dealing with students, parents, staff, and administration.
  • Seeking the counsel and direction of the classroom teacher, principal, and colleagues while maintaining a teachable attitude.
  • Knowing and following procedures for emergency situations, including fire, tornado, lockdown, and other crisis procedures.
  • Attending staff meetings, devotionals, in-services, retreats, parent/teacher meetings, and other scheduled meetings as deemed necessary by the principal or administrator.
  • Supporting the broader program of the school by attending school activities when possible.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher, principal, or administration.

The Teacher's Aide / Teaching Assistant shall:

  • Believe that the Bible is God's Word and the standard for faith and daily living.
  • Be a Christian role model in attitude, speech, conduct, and relationships.
  • Be committed to biblical standards of personal conduct.
  • Be in wholehearted agreement with the school's Statement of Faith and Christian philosophy of education.
  • Show by example the importance of Scripture, prayer, witnessing, and unity in the Body of Christ.
  • Motivate students toward faithfulness to Christ through personal witness and Christian role modeling.
  • Help students understand their self-worth in Christ.
  • Reflect the purpose of the school, which is to honor Christ in every class and activity.
Professional Expectations

The Teacher's Aide / Teaching Assistant shall:

  • Seek and accept direction from the classroom teacher, principal, and administration.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, staff, and school matters.
  • Share student information only with those who have a legitimate need to know.
