Location:
SSM Health St. Clare Hospital - Baraboo, WI - Department: Inpatient Pharmacy
- Schedule: Part time, 20 hours per week
- Shift: Combination of 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (includes every 3rd weekend rotation)
- This role is open to certified and non‑certified candidates.
Under direct supervision of a pharmacist and according to standard procedures, transcribes, prepares medication orders, assists in dispensing and delivery, and ensures proper storage and security of medications. This position is responsible for non‑sterile and/or sterile compounding, utilizing pharmacy automation systems, and accurately maintaining required documentation. It also serves as a resource by training others in technical skills and participating in audit processes to ensure compliance and quality standards.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of medication orders that may include transcription, workflow management, automation utilization, and medication readiness for checking, dispensing, and delivery. Conduct non‑sterile and/or sterile compounding of medications.
- Distribute medications to designated areas and return unused, discontinued, or damaged doses to the pharmacy. Properly utilize automation and problem‑solve when necessary to ensure medications are secure and in‑date in their area of use.
- Support inventory management activities that include receipt, storage, security, and inspection. Ensure that inventory areas are clean, and that inventory is rotated, in‑date, and properly labeled.
- Adhere to regulatory requirements and quality assurance standards. Complete all documentation and maintain records in compliance with standard procedures. Promote a safe practice environment and report situations that may lead to safety events in addition to safety events that occur.
- Provide excellent customer service to patients, other staff, and ancillary departments and maintain high standards of confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA.
- Conduct reviews and audits, as assigned, to identify gaps in workflows, regulatory compliance, and safety. Report findings and help identify action plans to close gaps.
- Maintain proficiency in at least five documented pharmacy competencies in at least two competency categories.
- Teach competency skills to others including technicians, students, and pharmacists.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma/GED or education equivalency for licensing.
- One year experience as a pharmacy technician.
- Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0‑25 lbs.
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
- Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
- Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
- Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
- Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.
- Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25‑50 lbs.
- Rare climbing.
