About the Role
GNC's Store Manager in Training (SMIT) position is a development‑focused role designed to prepare an individual to manage their own store. Under the guidance of a Store Manager or District Manager, this hands‑on program will teach the skills and knowledge needed to successfully operate a store, drive results, and develop and lead a team.
What You’ll DoThis is a full‑time hourly supervisory position. As a SMIT you will lead, coach, and support your team, oversee daily operations, business performance, product management, and provide exceptional customer service. You will represent the GNC brand by offering expert product knowledge and promoting the "Live Well" message.
- Engage with your trainer on initiatives, projects, and goals to support your promotion path.
- Support the total shopping experience, including visual and operational elements, current sales initiatives, and customer relationships that drive sales and repeat business.
- Achieve and exceed personal sales and productivity goals while helping sales associates realize their sales potential.
- Build strong teams and demonstrate leadership and managerial skills, including giving ongoing feedback, recruiting, hiring, and performance management.
- Open, close, and operate the retail facility, including cash handling, inventory counts, and deposits following GNC procedures.
- Attend community fairs, conferences, meetings, and other public gatherings to promote the organization’s mission and initiatives.
Selection for the SMIT position does not guarantee promotion to a Store Manager. At the end of 90 days your performance will be assessed to determine eligibility for promotion, considering factors such as performance, availability of openings, and willingness to accept a promotion in any location within the designated market.
Environmental Factors & Working Schedule- Must be able to stand or walk for up to eight hours a day.
- Frequent reaching, bending, and twisting – below the waist and above the shoulders.
- Repetitive hand‑to‑finger motions and reaching with hands and arms.
- Lifting up to twenty pounds, occasionally up to forty pounds, with push/pull up to 20 lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders, reach, and bend.
- Work in temperatures ranging from 50 to 85 degrees, especially in stock room areas.
- Use of a computer up to 60% of the day.
- SMITs of mall and strip center stores must work at least two nights during the week until closing, one weekend night, and one other night.
- Strip center SMITs must also work a full shift on Saturdays.
- Mall SMITs are expected to work peak business days, including weekends (Saturday & Sunday).
- SMITs are expected to work a minimum of one full Sunday per month.
- Downtown SMITs must work during the lunch hour (11 am–2 pm) Monday through Friday and one night per week until closing if the store is open in the evening. Downtown SMITs are not required to work Saturdays.
- SMITs are expected to work all major U.S. holidays that the store is open.
