Position Overview:
The Automation Systems Engineer plays a critical role in supporting BWXT's robotic operations. This position involves end-to-end management of robotic systems-from hardware selection and system design to network integration, software development, and system commissioning. The successful candidate will oversee the procurement and development of new robotic equipment, work collaboratively with engineers and key stakeholders to define system interfaces and capabilities, and lead the vendor selection process by establishing equipment specifications.

Your Day to Day as an Automation Systems Engineer:
- The Automation System Engineer is responsible supporting BWXT robotic operations and is involved in all aspects of robotic system execution, including hardware selection, system design, network design, software development, and system commissioning.
- Manages procumbent and development of new robotic equipment. Works with engineers and stakeholder groups to define system interfaces and capabilities. Creates equipment specification and leads vendor selection. Manages project from start to finish, including working with multi discipline team and managing project budget. Conducts end user training and ensures documentation of maintenance and operational instructions.
- Continuously improves systems to sustain safety and operational compliance.
- Contributing member in maintaining robotic safety requirements and aids in performing safety risk assessments.
- Assists cross functional disciplines with proper use of automated equipment for areas of diagnostics, repair, upgrades, installment, operational compliance, and end user training.
- Preforms other programming and automation tasks as dictated by management.
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (e.g. Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotic Engineering, Electric Engineering etc.) is required.
- Ability to conceptualize and define complex systems-of-systems is required.
- Must have a demonstrated ability to translate customer/client expectations into clear, concise, verifiable requirements.
- Must have detailed understanding of Systems Requirements, Architecture, Interface Definition, and Design.
- Demonstrable ability to collaborate on the creation, development, and presentation of technical briefings is required.
- Must be a self-starter, capable of effectively working both as part of a team and independently, able to recognize and solve technical problems.
- Familiarity with standard MS Office applications and MS Visual Studio is required.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain a DOE clearance.
