Summary:

The Project Engineer is responsible for planning, executing, and delivering capital and process improvement projects within a chemical manufacturing facility. This role ensures projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with environmental and regulatory standards.

The Project Engineer works cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, EHS, quality, procurement, and external contractors to support plant reliability, capacity expansion, process optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Specific Duties :
Specific duties are intended to describe activities that support the summary above. The list is not all inclusive - other duties may be required to cover the breadth and depth of the position.
  • Work with the Director of Engineering to determine process improvements and ways to improve line efficiencies.
  • Downtime analysis and root cause investigations to reduce equipment stoppages, improve reliability, and sustain production efficiency with focus on growth.
  • Work with Maintenance teams to improve equipment and performance.
  • Support preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Run small scale tests and simulations to evaluate design changes or process improvements.
  • Integrating sensors, actuators, and controllers to automate simple mechanical or packaging tasks.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Support the programming and troubleshooting of PLCs, microcontrollers, or control systems used in production equipment.
  • Assist in customer PLQs.
  • Work with the Plant Manager to determine necessary qualifications for new hires and to help recruit potential employees who meet those qualifications.
  • Perform training for employees. Maintain and update training matrix.
  • Collaborate with other departments and managers on projects.
  • Help identify problems and manage solutions daily associated with employees, processes and/or equipment.
  • Must be able to open up or lock up the building as needed.
  • Participate in the QIT (Quality Improvement Teams) process.
  • Maintain training needs and records for training.
  • Enforce all company rules with regard to the Union Contract (if applicable), Company Handbook, OSHA, safety, and housekeeping.
  • Ensure Best Manufacturing Practices are being used on the production floor.
  • Understand and follow Malco's Quality Policy and Quality Objectives.
Education:

Bachelors' degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related engineering field.

Experience:
  • 3-5 years' experience in a manufacturing environment. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience managing capital projects in an industrial setting.
  • Knowledge of chemical processing equipment.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Microsoft AX.
