Project Engineer About the Opportunity

A growing manufacturing organization in Northeast Ohio is seeking an Operations Engineer to support plant operations, process improvement initiatives, equipment reliability efforts, and engineering projects. This is a high-visibility role that offers the opportunity to work closely with operations leadership while gaining exposure to multiple manufacturing facilities and future leadership opportunities.

The ideal candidate will be a hands‑on engineer who enjoys troubleshooting manufacturing equipment, improving processes, supporting production operations, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Position Summary

The Operations Engineer is responsible for supporting day‑to‑day manufacturing operations through process optimization, equipment troubleshooting, reliability improvements, and project execution. This individual will partner closely with production, maintenance, quality, and leadership teams to improve plant performance, reduce downtime, and increase operational efficiency.

This role offers a long‑term growth path into broader engineering responsibilities, cross‑facility project involvement, and potential leadership opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support manufacturing operations by identifying and resolving equipment, process, and production challenges.
  • Analyze downtime events and perform root cause investigations to improve equipment reliability and operational performance.
  • Partner with maintenance and production teams to troubleshoot manufacturing equipment and implement corrective actions.
  • Lead and support process improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, throughput, quality, and cost reduction.
  • Assist with capital projects, equipment upgrades, facility improvements, and production line modifications.
  • Evaluate and implement improvements to manufacturing processes, equipment, and workflows.
  • Support preventive and predictive maintenance initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to drive continuous improvement efforts.
  • Assist with manufacturing layouts, equipment placement, and facility improvement projects.
  • Support training initiatives and help promote operational best practices throughout the facility.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of engineering experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands‑on troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing operations, equipment reliability, or process improvement initiatives.
  • Experience managing or supporting engineering projects within a production environment.
  • Strong problem‑solving, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting packaging systems such as filling lines, capping systems, conveyors, material handling equipment, or automated packaging equipment.

OR

  • Experience supporting processing systems such as pumps, tanks, mixers, piping systems, and related manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting Allen Bradley‑controlled equipment.
  • Experience using AutoCAD for facility layouts, production line layouts, or equipment placement.
  • Exposure to continuous improvement methodologies and manufacturing best practices.
  • Leadership potential with interest in future management or broader engineering responsibilities.
