General Purpose
The primary purpose of this position is to provide direct nursing care to residents and supervise daily nursing activities performed by nursing assistants, in accordance with federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. The supervisor will ensure the highest degree of quality care at all times.

Administrative Functions- Direct the day‑to‑day functions of nursing assistants in accordance with rules, regulations, and guidelines.
- Ensure nursing personnel comply with written policies and procedures.
- Periodically review department policies, procedure manuals, and job descriptions; make recommendations for revisions.
- Plan shifts’ services, programs, and activities with nursing staff and support personnel.
- Maintain the Nursing Service Procedures Manual as current and accurate.
- Prepare and submit written and oral reports and recommendations regarding shift activities.
- Coordinate nursing services with other resident services to maintain total resident care.
- Ensure compliance with job descriptions and nursing service procedures.
- Participate in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility’s quality assurance program for the nursing service department.
- Assist with facility surveys and inspections by authorized government agencies.
- Review and update residents’ written discharge plans as required.
- Assist in planning the nursing portion of resident discharge plans.
- Interpret department policies and procedures for personnel, residents, visitors, and government agencies.
- Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as needed.
- Complete accident and incident reports.
- Write resident charge slips and forward to the Business Office.
- Maintain the Daily Census Report and submit to the Business Office.
- Perform other administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, and charting.
- Maintain confidentiality of user and password for resident/facility information.
- Report violations of confidentiality or unauthorized information system access.
- Complete and file required record‑keeping forms and charts upon admission, transfer, or discharge.
- Encourage physicians to review treatment plans and record their orders and progress notes.
- Record physician telephone orders on the Physicians’ Order Form.
- Transcribe physician orders to resident charts, medication cards, and treatment plans.
- Chart nurses’ notes accurately, reflecting care provided and resident response.
- Submit accident or incident reports to the Director as required.
- Record new or changed diet orders and forward information to Food Services.
- Document discrepancies in physician orders, diet changes, or charting errors and report to Nurse Supervisor.
- Complete transfer forms according to established procedures.
- Document unauthorized discharges appropriately in the medical record.
- Perform routine charting duties in line with charting policies and procedures.
- Sign and date all entries in the resident’s medical record.
- Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician.
- Verify resident identity before medication administration.
- Ensure prescribed medication for one resident is not given to another.
- Maintain adequate floor stock of medications, supplies, and equipment; report needs to Nurse Supervisor.
- Order prescribed medications, supplies, and equipment as needed.
- Maintain accuracy of narcotic records for the shift.
- Report drug and narcotic discrepancies to Nurse Supervisor.
- Review medication cards for completeness, transcription accuracy, and stop‑order adherence.
- Notify the attending physician of automatic stop orders prior to last dosage.
- Dispose of drugs and narcotics per established procedures.
- Participate in employee performance evaluations and staffing determinations.
- Inform Nurse Supervisor of staffing needs when personnel fail to report.
- Report absentee call‑ins to Nurse Supervisor.
- Review and evaluate workforce, making staffing recommendations.
