Armag Corporation is seeking an experienced and driven Senior Accountant to join our Accounting team. This position plays a critical role in maintaining accurate financial reporting, supporting operational accounting activities, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and tax requirements. The successful candidate will be a hands-on accounting professional who takes ownership of processes, investigates issues proactively, and contributes to continuous improvement across the organization.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare, analyze, and reconcile weekly and monthly Work-in-Progress (WIP) reports.
- Maintain and analyze backlog and completed jobs reporting.
- Review job activity and investigate margin fluctuations, missing costs, billing discrepancies, and other accounting exceptions.
- Perform month-end close activities including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules.
- Prepare revenue-related accruals and supporting analyses.
- Prepare and file sales and use tax returns.
- Support government and contract billing activities, including invoice preparation, tracking, and issue resolution.
- Coordinate and maintain Certificates of Insurance (COIs).
- Analyze general ledger activity to ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper accounting treatment.
- Partner with operational teams to resolve accounting and project-related issues.
- Develop and maintain accounting procedures, work papers, and supporting documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting efficiency.
- Provide cross-training and backup support within the Accounting department.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong experience with general ledger accounting and month-end close processes.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial statement relationships.
- Advanced analytical and reconciliation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP/accounting software systems.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with WIP accounting, job costing, project accounting, or construction/manufacturing environments.
- Sales and use tax compliance experience.
- Government contract billing experience.
