Job Description
Position Overview

The BHS Student Sports Media Intern is an official, paid student media position responsible for helping capture, organize, and produce sports-related content for Bardstown High School athletics. This student will serve as a key member of the BHS Business/Media program and will work to ensure that all athletic programs receive consistent, high-quality, and equitable media coverage throughout the school year.

The Student Sports Media Intern will attend athletic events, practices, and other activities as assigned to collect photos, video, interviews, highlights, and behind-the-scenes content. This content will support BHS social media, weekly school news segments, hype videos, athlete and team features, and seasonal sports specials.

Because this student will frequently represent Bardstown High School and have access to teams, sidelines, locker-room areas when permitted, coaches, and student-athletes, the position requires a high level of responsibility, professionalism, maturity, and trust.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Capture high-quality photo and video content from BHS athletic events, practices, senior nights, special events, and other assigned activities.
  • Provide regular coverage across all BHS sports programs , not simply the highest-profile teams.
  • Help create more equal and equitable exposure for student-athletes and athletic programs throughout the school.
  • Collect game highlights, crowd reactions, introductions, celebrations, behind-the-scenes footage, and other content that tells the story of BHS Athletics.
  • Conduct or assist with short interviews with athletes and coaches.
  • Produce and organize content for use in:
    • Weekly BHS news/sports segments
    • BHS social media
    • Game-day and promotional content
    • Hype videos
    • Athlete and team spotlights
    • Senior recognition
    • Postseason coverage
    • Seasonal sports recap/special programs
  • Maintain an organized digital library of photos and videos so content can be easily accessed by the Business/Media program and school staff.
  • Communicate with coaches, the Business/Media teacher, athletic personnel, and school administration regarding upcoming events and content needs.
  • Meet established deadlines for submitting and producing content.
Professional Expectations

The Student Sports Media Coordinator holds an official position representing Bardstown High School. The student will be expected to:

  • Demonstrate maturity, reliability, and professionalism.
  • Follow all school and athletic department rules.
  • Maintain appropriate behavior on sidelines and in team areas.
  • Respect coaches, officials, athletes, opposing teams, and spectators.
  • Understand that media access is a privilege and should never interfere with a team, coach, official, or athletic competition.
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries and confidentiality when given access to team environments.
  • Use good judgment regarding what is appropriate to photograph and record.
  • Avoid creating content that embarrasses, targets, or negatively portrays students, coaches, teams, or the school.
  • Remain neutral and professional when covering different teams and student-athletes.
  • Represent BHS positively both in person and through the content collected.
Expected Deliverables

The student will work with the Business/Media teacher to establish a weekly coverage schedule. Typical expectations may include:

  • Coverage of multiple athletic events each week.
  • A collection of edited photos and video clips from assigned events.
  • Highlights submitted for the weekly BHS news segment.
  • Regular short-form social media content.
  • Athlete, coach, or team interviews/features.
  • Hype or promotional videos for selected events.
  • Content supporting every athletic season.
  • End-of-season highlight or recap content for assigned sports.

Coverage expectations will be intentionally distributed among sports to ensure that programs throughout BHS receive meaningful exposure.
