Qualifications

Valid Kentucky Certificate for Teaching Exceptional Children:
Learning and Behavior Disorders (LBD), Hearing Impaired (HI), and/or Visually Impaired (VI).

Position Summary

To implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.

District and School Priority Alignment

Align actions with district and school values and core priorities. Evaluated based on the efficacy of aligned actions.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Supervise students in out-of classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to ensure the safety of students and staff.
  • Ensure that the educational needs of students are met and that they become independent learners and achieve their full potential.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with students, colleagues, and community members.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized or small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to each student’s needs and learning styles.
  • Translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize instructional time and meet individual student needs.
  • Use professional knowledge to address the needs of the diverse/special education learner population while demonstrating respect for individual differences, cultures, and learning needs.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student conduct needed to achieve an effective learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Assess the educational needs of learners, gather data to determine learner needs, measure learner progress, guide instruction and intervention, and provide timely feedback to learners, families, and staff.
  • Create and develop IEPs for students on the caseload.
  • Maintain and collect progress monitoring data on diverse learners/special education students.
  • Evaluate student’s academic, behavioral, and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports regularly.
  • Communicate with students and parents through conferences and other means to discuss progress and interpret the school program.
  • Identify students' needs and cooperate with other professional staff to solve health, attitude and learning problems.
  • Maintain professional competence through professional staff development activities provided by the district and/or self-selected activities.
  • Participate collaboratively with administrators in the evaluation process.
  • Select and requisition instructional materials; maintain required inventory records.
  • Administer assessments in accordance with the district assessment programs.
  • Participate in curriculum development programs as required.
  • Participate in faculty, team, departmental meetings, committees, and sponsorship of student co-curricular activities as assigned.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques, strategies and media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of individuals or student groups.

  • Accept responsibility for appropriate utilization and care of equipment, materials and facilities.
