SummaryThe Engine Builder/Machinist specializes in the precision machining and assembly of high-performance LS/LT-based engines and components. Contribute to production efficiency, product quality, and continuous improvement within a fast-paced performance engine environment.
- Perform precision machining operations including boring, honing, decking, and line honing on engine blocks using CNC and manual equipment.
- Set up, operate, and maintain machining equipment to ensure consistent accuracy and repeatability.
- Measure and verify critical tolerances using micrometers, dial bore gauges, and other precision instruments.
- Assemble high-performance engines to exact specifications, including installation of crankshafts, pistons, rods, cylinder heads, and valve train components.
- Degree camshafts, set bearing clearances, and establish proper ring gaps and tolerance.
- Follow detailed build sheets and standardized processes to ensure consistency across builds.
- Conduct quality control inspections on machined components and completed engine assemblies.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve machining or assembly discrepancies.
- Ensure all work meets Brian Tooley Racing's performance, durability, and quality standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with shop procedures.
- Support inventory management, parts organization, and workflow efficiency.
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and R&D teams on product development and process improvements.
- Work is performed in a manufacturing, CNC, warehouse, and production environment.
- Regular standing, walking, bending, lifting, reaching, and material handling is required.
- May be required to lift, move, or handle parts, supplies, boxes, and other production materials.
- Exposure to noise, machinery, oils, coolants, dust, and standard manufacturing conditions may occur.
- Personal protective equipment may be worn as required.
- This role may require movement between CNC locations and production areas throughout the facility.
- 2+ years of experience in engine building and/or machining, preferably in a performance environment.
- Strong working knowledge of internal combustion engines and component relationships.
- Proficiency in the use of precision measuring tools and machining equipment.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, blueprints, and build documentation.
- Experience with LS/LT engine platforms preferred.
- CNC machining experience is preferred.
- High attention to detail and precision.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
