Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Security Officer, you will monitor buildings and grounds on the property to ensure the safety and security of employees, patients, and other visitors.

  • Patrol on foot and by vehicle the facility and grounds, including all perimeter buildings and posts.
  • Regulate parking by employees and visitors.
  • Give directions and assist with minor vehicle problems.
  • Provide escorts for employees.
  • Provide security coverage in the Emergency Department.
  • Direct traffic as requested and maintain smooth flow of vehicles.
  • Transport persons to facility services as required.
  • Provide courier services as needed.
  • Lock and unlock doors as provided for or as required.
  • Back up staff on all STAT calls.
  • Participate in all fire and disaster calls.
  • Stat pick up of medical supplies from/to other facilities.
  • Log visitors and issue passes.
  • Patrol all patient care and waiting areas.
  • Log in and release patient valuables in cooperation with Admitting.
  • Conduct lock‑down and opening‑up procedures at designated times.
  • Log all activities in a daily log to accurately record events of shifts.
  • Inform the Supervisor/Manager/Director of any circumstances that may have serious impact on the hospital.
  • Support and adhere to Security Department policies and procedure guidelines.
  • Serve as Officer‑In‑Charge of a scheduled shift when requested by Supervisor.
  • Maintain current knowledge of new methods, products, trends, and practices in hospital security and emergency management.
  • Report unsafe acts or conditions to the Lead Officer in a timely manner.
  • Escort suspicious persons without lawful business from the property.
  • Recognize escalation or de‑escalation of force situations and make correct decisions without direct supervision.
  • Respond to calls for assistance in a timely and prudent manner (e.g., control of violent or unruly patients or visitors, crimes committed on hospital property).
  • Assist employees, visitors, guests, and medical staff when a need exists to call the police.
  • Make reasonable judgments that minimize liability to the hospital at all times.
  • Effectively prioritize calls for assistance.
  • Respond to service calls (opening and securing doors, general information, escorts, assistance with disabled vehicles).
  • Safely and courteously perform traffic control and parking duties as required.
  • Issue parking citations as necessary in accordance with parking policies.
  • Safely and courteously maintain the hospital main entrance and ER lobby free for normal traffic.
  • Monitor security alarms and dispatch officers promptly to locations where a security problem has been noted.
  • Use appropriate emergency and radio codes in dispatching security officers while knowing the campus to ensure accurate dispatches.
  • Complete clear, concise, and legible reports in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate communication skills: age‑sensitive awareness, accurate listening, polite speech, correct grammar, and comprehensible writing.
  • Assure confidentiality by disseminating information only on a need‑to‑know basis.
  • Complete required training programs (e.g., Workplace Violence, Annual Update).
  • Use fire extinguishing equipment when necessary.
  • Maintain familiarity with disaster response plans.
  • Respond to Emergency Codes as prescribed.
  • Maintain knowledge of the location of emergency equipment, supplies, and operation locations.
  • Maintain Security Department confidentiality and report incidents when patient confidentiality is breached.
  • Attend at least 75% of all Department Staff meetings.
Job Requirements
  • High School Graduate (General Studies) with at least 3 years of experience as a security officer, upon hire—or equivalent GED and 3 years’ experience.
  • Less than 1 year of experience as a security officer in a hospital or healthcare setting, plus prior law‑enforcement or military service, upon hire.
  • 1–3 years of experience as a security officer, upon hire.
  • Valid driver’s license (KY).
  • Basic Life Support (CPR) certification within 30 days of hire.
Compensation

Pay Range: $16.83 – $23.77 per hour.
