Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Diesel Fitter role based in Barking. The Diesel Fitter will carry out routine and reactive maintenance on diesel-powered vehicles and heavy equipment used on civil engineering projects, including inspection, fault diagnosis, repair, and testing. Day-to-day tasks include performing scheduled preventive maintenance, replacing and adjusting components, ensuring equipment is safe and fit for purpose, and keeping accurate maintenance records.

The role involves working closely with site supervisors and operators to minimize downtime, responding promptly to breakdowns, and maintaining a clean, organized work area. The Diesel Fitter will follow all health and safety procedures and contribute to continuous improvement of maintenance practices.

Qualifications
  • Candidates should possess strong skills in Vehicle Maintenance and Diesel Mechanics for fault finding, repair, and servicing of diesel-powered plant and vehicles.
  • Candidates should possess skills in Equipment Maintenance and Heavy Equipment servicing to ensure reliable operation of site machinery and tools.
  • Candidates should possess skills in Preventive Maintenance, including scheduling, inspection, and record-keeping to reduce breakdowns and extend equipment life.
  • Relevant vocational qualification or apprenticeship in diesel fitting, mechanical engineering, or automotive/plant maintenance is highly beneficial.
  • Experience working on civil engineering or construction sites, with a solid understanding of health and safety standards, is an advantage.
  • Ability to read technical manuals, work independently and as part of a team, and communicate clearly with supervisors and operators is required.
  • Holding appropriate trade certifications, a valid driving license, and willingness to work flexible hours when needed is beneficial.
